Am I the only one who was absolutely disgusted to see Nancy Pelosi jumping out of her chair and clapping when President Obama (predictably) said, "...a deficit we inherited" during the State of the Union last night?
First, the President just submits the budget; Congress approves it. Pelosi's been the Speaker of the House for the last two years. So she better be willing to point the finger at herself first. In fact, in a Congress with a Democrat majority in 2008, the budget deficit nearly DOUBLED the prior year.
Secondly,
isn't it a little unprofessional and pretty tasteless to clap about HAVING a national deficit, regardless of where it came from? She could barely contain her glee!
Seriously. Come on here, people. Did the Republicans spend too much when they were in power. Absolutely (although they actually reigned in the deficit in 07). But don't believe the lie that the deficit we have now is all Bush's creation. It's not.
At the head table of those responsible sits Nancy Pelosi, clapping her partisan-self siily.
More actual facts here.
Yes, her over-enthusiasm was a tad annoying. While "live-blogging" (read: Facebook status updating/commenting), I made the comment that she was smiling more than I was on my wedding night.
