Let’s get something out of the way right up front: This is a poorly named product. If you’ve ever had diarrhea, you know there is no toilet flushing product that can replace scrubbing.
With that in mind, Kaboom's NeverScrub (hawked by El Beardo Intenso) is a cool product that does a great job at what it is designed to do (just not what it is named to do). That is, this is the best “tablet in the tank” type product I’ve used. And I’ve tried a few.
Our toilet is in a bit of a “closet” without a lot of circulation, even with the door open. So toilet odor is a (small) concern. And with little kids using the crapper, anything that can help keep some germs away is a welcome addition to our Reading Room.
The great thing about this little guy (as opposed to the drop-in tablets), is that he hooks in to the middle of the refill tube in your toilet. The big problem with tablets is that over time, the chemicals can erode the rubber around your flapper. Not good. You don’t want an eroded flapper—trust me.
Since the NeverScrub re-routes the refill line, all the chemically goodness (smells like chlorine to me) going right into the tank. And more specifically, it all goes down the tank walls. When you just do a drop-in tablet, you’re “treating” the water that gets shot straight down into the exit pipe. That ain’t doing anybody any good.
The NeverScrub keeps the walls of the toilet clean, hits most of the places where nastiness resides, and pretty much eliminated water stains. Does it replace actually, ya know, having to clean your toilet bowl and seat? No. But it really helps keep stains and odor away every day. And you can get one for free (plus shipping) from their website. Not too shabby.
If you have a product you feel is worthy of the "Things That Work" designation, leave it in the comments!
